Review:

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

See, I tried. I really did. But we are dnf'ing this one.

The two primary reasons are the characters and the writing style, two things that if they don't start reasonably well, they really just don't get better.

The heroine, Sabeara Aigoviel, is one of those protagonists with stupidly complicated names who THINKS they're so plain and ordinary but they're actually GORGEOUS BEAUTIES.

*gasps with her hand to the heart because she just did not see that coming*

literally cannot do ONE HELPFUL THING. When she's kidnapped, she takes exactly ONE look around her prison tent and BLOODY GIVES UP.

SHE LITERALLY SAYS I HOPE MY RESCUERS COME SOON.

GIRL WHAT

The hero isn't really much better. He kinda feels like a cardboard cutout with his eMErAld gReEN eyes. Like tell me why I care.

And then the rest of the characters feel like marionettes basing their lives around the main girl's boring life.

THEN, the writing is stilted and has the most AWKWARD word choices. I quote:

"her long blonde hair was curled to perfection around her nimble shoulders"

what's a nimble shoulder

"I leaned back against a tree trunk, letting the bark dig into my innocent flesh"

what does innocent flesh even mean

"I found an empty abyss going up farther than I could see"

abysses are holes. holes go down.

revolutionary, i know.

"I tenderly stepped inside"

strike 182 and that's a dnf.

anyways. It definitely had potential, but it's gonna have to be a no for me.
